My work-issued laptop is a Dell Latitude D610 with a 2.1 GHz Pentium M processor, 2 GB RAM, and a 60 GB hard drive. It runs Windows XP Professional. It’s a nice machine. When I want to connect to a wireless network, however, which I do often throughout the day (including at night in my hotel room), I must do the following:

1. Open Services and start Wireless Zero Configuration
2. Right-click the Wireless Connection icon in the system tray and select View Available Wireless Networks
3. In the ensuing dialog, under Related Tasks, click Change advanced settings
4. In the next dialog, click the Wireless Networks tab
5. Click the checkbox beside Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings
6. Click OK
7. Right-click the Wireless Connection icon in the system tray again and select View Available Wireless Networks
8. Select the network I want to log in to and click OK

Why is this so hard?
